How the project began

I also wanted to share a little bit about how the project began.

I am Róis alann inghean Uí Fhlaithbheartaigh (Rose O'Flaherty), residing in the Barony of Sternfeld, Region of Constellation in the Middle Kingdom.  I have been playing in the SCA for since the summer of 2010.

I have loved glass beads as long as I can remember.  I can't even tell you how excited I was
when I was introduced to and found others who could help me to learn how to make them!
I was so excited, and still am.  Early on, I had decided to keep a notebook on each
of the different bead types I found, and learned about.  Eventually, this started an idea
for another notebook that would show beads used by specific cultures in specific time periods.
I wanted to share these (it would be silly to let them go to waste, just sitting around for my use) and
when I volunteered to bring my beads and torch out to a baronial demo, I knew there
would be a way to share this info somehow!

It was not too long after I learned of the Release a Bead program done by the ISGB.
I thought it was awesome and the idea for the bead rescue project was beginning to take shape.
Beads could be "planted" or "released" at events specifically.  They could lead to
information for the finder, regarding that specific bead, period, culture, etc.
I could share this with my bead friends, by sharing their beads as well in the project!

In the end, it would be the projects center, a display, at the event, where my
ever continuing notebook project could be displayed.  Other bead displays could be shown as well.
The beads could even be cross referenced.  We could give out cords for the beads to be worn after they are
found.  We could even get pictures.......

Pictures, Galleries, next came the website, which is now allowing me to share all of my information
with everyone, everywhere!!  Not only that, but, others can use this information,
and this idea to run bead rescues in other regions, other kingdoms!!

I am so excited about this project and the plans for its growth and continuation...
Not to mention, all those beads that will find loving homes, even outside their period or culture!

This is such a fun way to share just how Awesome Beads are and how important they were to
just about every culture in every time period!  If just one person learns just one little fun
fact about beads....I think I will have a smile forever!
